Confidentiality Policy: Any information revealed by you during counselling sessions will be kept strictly confidential and will not be revealed to any other person or agency without written permission. In addition, we do not disclose to anyone the name(s) of the individuals who are receiving counselling at our center. Counsellors do however consult with colleagues or supervisors in order to gain assistance and insight in providing quality, helpful services to you. There are also a few situations in which, according to law, the counsellor is required to reveal information obtained during therapy to other persons or agencies without your permission. These situations could involve (1) “court ordered” counselling (2) if you threaten harm to yourself or to other identified individuals. (3) Please note that if we have reason to believe that you are neglecting your children or abusing them physically or sexually, we are obliged by provincial law to report this to the appropriate authorities. Finally, (4) if our center is a third party counselling service provider (as part of an EAP for instance), the agency doing the referral may ask to receive some type of report or evaluation from our center. The client will generally be informed of this in advance by their insurance provider.
